Consultants Laboratory of Wisconsin LLC, Fond du Lac, achieved a two-year accreditation by the Commission on Laboratory Accreditation of the College of American Pathologists (CAP), based on the results of a recent on-site inspection in Fond du Lac and Waupun. Consultants Laboratory is one of the 7,000 CAP-accredited laboratories worldwide.
Bemis Company Inc. in May closed its pressure-sensitive materials manufacturing facility in Stow, Ohio. Bemis, headquartered in Neenah, expects this plant closure to improve market competitiveness and better position its pressure-sensitive materials business for long-term growth. The headquarters of the pressure-sensitive materials business will remain in Ohio.
The Manitowoc Company participated in the Barclays Industrial Select Conference, Miami, in February; the ISI Industrial Conference, New York, in March; and the AEM Industrial Conference in conjunction with Conexpo, Las Vegas, also in March. At Conexpo, Manitowoc introduced its new 330-ton and 716-ton crawler cranes with breakthrough Variable Position Counterweight. Manitowoc and the Ferndale, Wash.-based Samson also introduced the first synthetic hoist rope designed specifically for mobile cranes.

R.A. Smith National of Appleton received a 2014 Best in State Award for Drexel Avenue and a State Finalist Award for Oakbrook Center from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Wisconsin. The award-winning reconstruction of Drexel Avenue in Oak Creek involved upgrading about one mile of roadway from a two-lane rural to a four-lane urban cross section with a median and turn lanes.
School Specialty Inc. (SSI) expanded its distribution center in Mansfield, Ohio. SSI will hire an additional 550 seasonal workers to support its peak-season requirements and about 30 full-time employees in the local Mansfield area. SSI is also consolidating distribution operations to enhance operational efficiencies and improve customer fulfillment rates. Inventory from the closing of its distribution centers in Salina, Kan., and Fresno, Calif., was transitioned to its Greenville and Mansfield locations.

Fox River Fiber of De Pere is promoting responsible forest management through the use of post-consumer wastepaper certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). Fox River Fiber is a company that de-inks post-consumer wastepaper for high-quality pulp. In its production process, the company uses recycled material that is nearly 100 percent FSC-certified.

Wild Rose Community Memorial Hospital (WRCMH) and ThedaCare agreed to the terms of a letter of intent to affiliate. As an affiliate of Partners Health System, WRCMH is linked to Community Health Network, which announced a similar agreement with ThedaCare in January.
ThedaCare Breast Centers was renewed accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), which recognized the health system’s dedication to improving the quality of care and monitoring the outcome of patients with breast diseases. The breast centers serve patients at Appleton Medical Center, Encircle Health and Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah. ThedaCare received its first three-year accreditation in 2011. ThedaCare also earned the designation of Green Professional in the 2014 Green Masters Program established by the Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council.

The Ministry Door County Medical Center received a 2014 Older Adult Community Engagement Grant for $14,958 from the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation for the Memory in Development (MIND) program. MIND is a comprehensive brain enhancement and support program for those with mild memory loss or early-stage dementia. A collaboration between the ADRC of the Lakeshore, Kewaunee County Caregiver Coalition, NEW Curative and Ministry Door County Medical Center sponsored this program.
